STRENGTHENING OUR SISTERHOOD AS WE GROW TOGETHER.

Educational Development

Delta Gems

Composed of five major components, Delta GEMS can be viewed as a road map for college and career planning. Each component is designed to provide interactive lessons and activities that provide opportunities for self-reflecting and individual growth.

Delta GEMS is designed for:
* Young ladies age 14 – 18 and/or in grades 9 through 12;
* Young ladies who have potential, but need guidance, support and skills to achieve success;
* Young ladies who are interested in developing leadership skills;
* Young ladies who are actively pursuing college and/or career options; and
* Young ladies who need encouragement and support in pursuit of higher learning.

The goals for Delta GEMS are:
* To instill in our girls the need to excel academically;
* To provide tools that will enable our girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success;
* To assist our girls in proper goal setting and planning for their futures; and
* To create compassionate, caring and community minded young women by actively involving them in service learning and community service opportunities.

Delta Gems Scholar Award

The Delta GEMS Scholar Award has been established to support the continued education of those Delta GEMS members who have demonstrated a consistent commitment to the program. The scholarship is reserved for exceptional individuals who exemplify Delta GEMS' traits of excellence, leadership, commitment to public service and a desire to make a difference within the community. Applications are available each year to graduating seniors who participate in our Delta GEMS program.

Delta Academy

Catching the Dreams of Tomorrow, Preparing Young Women for the 21st Century the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy program was created out of an urgent sense that bold action was needed to save our young females (ages 11-14) from the perils of academic failure, low self-esteem, and crippled futures. Delta Academy provides an opportunity for local Delta chapters to enrich and enhance the education that our young teens receive in public schools across the nation. Specifically, we augment their scholarship in math, science, and technology, their opportunities to provide service in the form of leadership through service learning, and their sisterhood, defined as the cultivation and maintenance of healthy relationships.

Program highlights for Delta Academy include:
* Exposure to non-traditional careers
* Educational support in math, science and technology
* Mentoring in self-esteem, respect for others, social etiquette and leadership
* Service Learning
* African-American Literacy

Delta Academy is designed for girls who exemplify one or more of the following characteristics:
* Possess potential, but limited opportunity to achieve success
* Interested in developing their leadership skills
* Interested in video games, computers, and technology
